What The Hell? Brochure Says Canon EOS R5 With 26MP? (we think it’s a typo)

Canon Eos R5

We are getting rather confused here. Wasn’t it given for sure that the Canon EOS R5 will have a 45MP sensor?

We got the image above anonymously and it doesn’t seem a fake to us. It looks like a legit product brochure or ad. The specification list on the right of the text mentions a 26.2MP sensor. So what!?

We think someone messed up things here and mistakenly published the sensor resolution of the Canon EOS R6 instead of the Canon EOS R5. Or is 8K video possible with a 26MP sensor? We don’t think it is.

Again: we do not think a 26MP sensor resolution is possible in regard to some of the EOS R5 specifications. If someone can tell how 8K video is possible with a 26MP sensor then please share in the comment section.

The EOS R5 announcement is rumored to be on July 2, 2020. Stay tuned.

Canon EOS R6 and EOS R5 Preorders Should Start Mid July 2020

Eos R5 Price

The Canon EOS R6 and Canon EOS R5 announcement is getting closer by the day, July 2, 2020, the most likely date. And EOS R6 and EOS R5 preorders might start soon too.

Latest has it that you will be able to put EOS R6 and EOS R5 preorders by mid July 2020. The following kits will be available for preorder:

  • Canon EOS R5 body
  • Canon EOS R6 body
  • Canon EOS R5 kit with RF 24-105mm USM lens
  • Canon EOS R6 kit with RF 24-105mm USM lens
  • Canon EOS R6 kit with RF 24-105mm STM lens

Be aware that it is very likely that Canon will not be able to ship the EOS R5 and EOS R6 in huge quantities at first, as consequence of supply chain issues because of the global pandemic.

All we know about the Canon EOS R5 is neatly listed here. About the EOS R6 we know less (all rumors here and rumored specifications here), The EOS R6 will be a more entry-level oriented camera with a 20MP sensor. 4K is rumored to be on board.

After the EOS R6 and EOS R5 announcement (and maybe along with them) we expect Canon to announce a bunch of RF lenses for the EOS R system.

Stay tuned.

Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 RF Review (image quality perfect for portrait work)

Samyang AF 85mm F/1.4 RF Review

A Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 RF review, Samyang aka Rokinon’s new autofocusing lens for the EOS R system.

Dustin Abbott posted an exhaustive Samyang AF 85mm f/1.4 RF review. While we recommend you head over and read his review, which comes with test charts and sample photos, and comparisons with similar lenses, and likely can answer any question you might have about this lens, here is a short summary of Dustin Abbott’s conclusion:

[…] For those interested in portrait photography, but without incredibly deep pockets, the Samyang RF85 ($700) is a godsend. It gives them a quality build (yet reasonable weight), good autofocus performance (with excellent Eye AF results), and image quality that is, essentially, near perfect for portrait work.

[…]

The list of shortcomings is fairly brief, with the typical wide aperture short telephoto traits of vignette and flare being the chief optical complaints.  The autofocus performance is roughly on par with what I saw from the Canon 85L lens, which is to say very good but not as quiet, smooth, or fast as the very best that I’ve seen.  I also wish the lens had support of Canon’s Lens Aberration Corrections (like the 14mm F2.8), but hopefully that will come via firmware in the future.  That’s about as much as I can come up with, as overall I think the lens is a wonderful addition to the RF catalog and a lens I plan to add to my own Canon RF kit.
