Canon Working on a 4K Fixed Lens Camcorder?

4K
Canon Rumors writes:

We’re told that a 4K fixed lens camcorder is coming in the early part of 2015. Such a product would probably fit in with CES as a consumer product announcement. We’re told the camera is called the XC10, and it will have similar ergonomics to the EOS C100, but it will have a fixed lens.

A lot points to the fact that Canon will implement 4K on cameras in 2015. The EOS 5D Mark IV is also rumoured to feature 4k.

Next Large Sensor Canon Powershot Camera Coming for CES 2015?

Canon Powershot

That’s what Canon Rumors suggests in their latest post.

We’re told that the previously mentioned large sensor PowerShot camera to complete the lineup of higher end compact cameras will be announced at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

No pricing nor specs so far.

CW’s take: the rumor is plausible, if not plain logic. We know Canon is working on a third large sensor Powershot camera after the Powersot G1 X Mark II and the Powershot G7 X. There were a lot of signs pointing in this direction, not last the inadvertend leak on Canon Netherland’s site and an development announcement on Canon Hong Kong’s page. So, yes it’s coming and CES may be the right stage for the announcement.

Stay tuned…

Canon Going Serious with Mirrorless in 2015 (full-frame MILC coming?)

Mirrorless
Canon’s EOS M

More and ore signs that something important in coming from Canon on the mirrorless front.

I have been told (thanks) that Canon will soon announce the development of a new mirrorless system camera, something we “will really like, and that’s what we were all waiting for“. First information should come (or leak) by the end of the year.

This is not the first mention of an upcoming new EOS M camera. According to the sources (yes, I got largely identical information from two different sources), this will not be an EOS M3 that follows the footsteps of the previous two models. One of the sources mentioned a mirrorless cam with full-frame sensor on board, the other an EOS M with rangefinder.

Everything is very secretive and hold under wraps for the time being. The only thing that appears to be pretty sure is that Canon is indeed working on the release of a new mirrorless system camera. And all signs so far suggest that this time it will be a serious affair.

2015 may be an exciting year for Canon. There are two new professional, full-frame cameras that are rumored, both with suggested 50 megapixel sensors (pinch of salt here). I am not posting everything and all the rumors I get, but there is one thing I am getting sure about: there will be exciting news by Canon next year.

The Unicorn is Back: Canon EOS 3D with 50MP Rumoured Again (2 versions)

Canon EOS 3D
18 months ago this camera was rumoured to be the EOS 3D

This is the unicorn-rumor, Canon’s fabled high megapixel camera. The rumor mills are crunching it since years. Now we have another push. Let’s hope Santa is listening.

Not just one but two of the unicorns are said to appear soon. While it has always been 46MP that were rumored, now it’s 50MP. One of the unicorns is said to come without low-pass filter (would be good for astrophotography, and for extreme sharpness fanatics). Both cameras are said to come with a form factor that’s not the same as the EOS-1 line, and to get positioned above the EOS 5D Mark III. Obviously the moniker “EOS 3D” is back in game.

Oh, almost forgot it: these cameras are expected for Q1 2015. Before it was 2014, 2013 etc. First mentions date back to 2008-2009.

CW’s take: no comment. This is a rumor that floats around since years. Every now and then it gets an update :-)

Ken Rockwell Speculates about the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV (36MP, $3800, 7fps, 65 points AF)

Canon EOS 5D Mark IVCanon EOS 5D Mark IV
This is an unusual source for a Canon rumor, a new entry among the many contradicting and confusing Canon rumor mills.

Ken Rockwell posted some speculations about the upcoming Canon EOS 5D Mark IV, and they are less absurd than someone may think. In substance:

  • 36MP sensor
  • $3800
  • 7fps
  • 65 point Auto-focus
  • 98% viewfinder coverage
  • 3.2″ display with 1,280,000 pixels
  • 2 CF card slots
  • Announcement March 17 2015
  • Available late April 2015

All in all these specs are more plausible than many people may think (and possibly more plausible than all the things the hyper-active rumor mills may spit out in the next months).

What I can confirm from rumors I got so far (all from anonymous sources) are the announcement in Q1 2015 and the AF system. Not mentioned by K. Rockwell is 4k video recording, something I was tipped more than once. I am pretty sceptical about 98% viewfinder coverage.

What do you think?

Canon Getting Serious with EOS M System (and CPS roadshow in May 2015)?

Canon EOS M

A few days ago an EOS M rumor surfaced, today we have some more bits about.

I have been told (thanks) that Canon Professional Services and Canon sale forces in Germany have informed various big German dealers that Canon HQs are recalling all EOS M models, but are letting all EF-M lenses in stores and branches. Dealers were told that Canon will address the EOS M in December. For the time being it looks as if it will be a development announcement rather than a last minute X-Mas surprise. If the rumor is reliable then Canon might getting serious about the EOS M system.

I’ve also been told that a CPS roadshow is scheduled for May 2015 to showcase new and important products Canon is going to announce in 2015, which possibly could be the rumoured professional cameras Canon may announce.

Stay tuned…
