This Canon Patent Describes Canon’s Prototype 100-400mm Miniature Concept Camera
Back in February Canon showcased various concept cameras at CP+ 2019.
One of these cameras, the IVY REC, can now be funded on Indiegogo. Another of those concept cameras is a miniature camera with a 100-400mm telephoto soon (image on top).
Canon patent application 2019-0208134 describes optical formulas and technology of the 100-400mm concept camera. Interesting fact: the lens itself appears to be removable. This could mean Canon will make more focal lengths to fit on this diminutive camera.
More Canon patent applications are listed here. Some particularly interesting patent applications we think might get into production are these:
- A cooling adapter for the RF mount (R5 overheating?)
- A bunch of macro lenses for the RF mount.
- A 8mm f/4 circular fisheye lens for the Canon EOS R system
- A battery grip that works with differently siszed cameras
- A 100-400mm f/5.5-7.1 lens for APS-C cameras. EOS M or DSLR?
- RF 17-70mm lens for EOS R system
- IBIS coming to the EOS M and PowerShot lineup?
- Patent Application: mirrorless camera with large display and virtual control wheel
- Patent Application: IBIS and Lens IS Working Together
- Patent application for high speed mirror movement and control

Sigma Might Release Four Lenses For The Canon EOS R (tell us which one you’d like to see first)
Good news for Canon EOS R fans.
In a few weeks Sigma will for the first time announce lenses designed specifically for the Sony Full Frame Mirrorless system. These:
- 35mm f/1.2
- 45mm f/2.8
- 12-24mm f/2.8
- 24-70mm f/2.8
That’s not the entire story. We have been told (thanks) that Sigma will release these lenses also natively for the Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless system. The source couldn’t tell a timeframe for the RF mount versions. All we know is that they will be released “sometimes later” (i.e. after the release of the Sony versions).
That’s really good news. Sigma makes outstanding lenses and releasing those lenses for the EOS R system will be a great contribution to its lens ecosystem.
