Nikon Will Soon Announce A Z Series Mirrorless With APS-C Sensor, Here Are The Specs

Mirrorless

It seems Nikon is set to soon announce a new mirrorless camera in the Z lineup, the Z50.

The Nikon Z50 will have an APS-C sensor. That means the Z50 is the first (and so far only) APS-C camera in the Z mirrorless lineup.

The specifications:

  • Nikon Z50 price: €900 in most European countries (around $980)
  • Nikon Z50 kit price with the new Nikkor Z 16-55mm (or 16-50mm) f/3.5-6.3 VR lens: €1,100 (around $1,200)
  • The Nikon Z50 will have a rear screen that can be tilted downwards for selfies but it will not work with selfie sticks
  • 4k video
  • Maximum shutter speed: 1/4000
  • The Nikon Z50 will be a direct Sony a6400 camera competitor
  • 20MP APS-C sensor (based on the D500 sensor)
  • Single SD card slot
  • 3″ pivoted LCD
  • 11 fps
  • No IBIS
  • Fixed EVF (not removable EVF as described in the latest design patents)
  • New Nikon EN-EL25 battery
  • Announcement date: October 10th
  • The official announcement could be as early as next week
  • The Z50 will be the equivalent of the D7xxx DSLR cameras
  • Two new APS-S mirrorless lenses: Z-Nikkor 16-55mm f/3.5-6.3 and Z-Nikkor 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3
  • The Nikon Z50 will look very similar to the Nikon Z1 prototype camera – it was described to me as a smaller version of the Z6/Z7

Two New Canon Cinema EOS Cameras Coming In 2020

Canon Cinema Rf Mount

Canon announced only one Cinema camera in 2019, the Canon EOS C500 Mark II. Next year we might see two new Canon Cinema cameras.

One of these new Canon cameras will be the Canon EOS C300 Mark III (Super 35mm and 4K video), and it will have the same modular design as the EOS C500 Mark II.

The other one might be the replacement for the Canon EOS C100 Mark II. For this one it’s also suggested it may have the Canon RF mount (introduced with the EOS R system).

Finally, it seems 2020 will not be the year Canon is going to introduce 8K video to its Cinema line-up. We may see some sort of development announcement, though.

Stay tuned.

The High Res Canon EOS R Camera Most Likely Is A 2020 Affair (and what else to expect)

Canon Eos R Firmware Update

It seems the announcement of the next Canon EOS R model, i.e. the anticipated high resolution EOS R, will happen in 2020.

In the past our sources always suggested Canon might announce the high megapixel Canon EOS R (all rumors) toward the end of 2019. We have now reasons to believe the announcement will happen within the first half of 2020, maybe already in the first quarter of the year.

There are tow main photo events to look out in 2020. One is CP+, scheduled for the end of February 2020, the other is Photokina, happening in May 2020. Latest rumor suggests Canon might have an important announcement scheduled for February 11, 2020 (which happens to be before the start of CP+).

Both the high megapixel Canon EOS R (all rumors) and the Canon EOS-1D X Mark III (all rumors) can be expected to be announced in the weeks between February and May 2020, in any case before the Summer Olympics.

And what about the Canon EOS R for astrophotography that leaked recently? It’s not clear when Canon is set to announce it. But given that the leaflet and other informations already leaked it can’t be too far away. Expect more information soon.

What else to expect? There still is the Canon RF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS we are waiting for. It’s safe to assume this lens will be announced in 2019, most likely within a month. 2020 will also see a bunch of new Canon RF lenses.

Stay tuned.

The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III Might Have Leaked Through Certification Agency

Canon Eos-1d X Mark Ii

The Canon EOS-1D X Mark III might have leaked through a wireless certification authority.

One of the following SKUs for accessories (e.g. external transmitter) might refer to the EOS-1D X Mark III.

  • DS586191 (DS586192 / DS586193 / DS586194)
  • Wireless file transmitter
  • Wi-Fi (IEEE802.11a / b / g / n / ac) compatible
  • interchangeable lenses: 3450C005AA, 3792C005AA

We know that the upcoming Canon EOS-1D X Mark III (all rumors) will be released in 2020, most likely before the Summer Olympics. Field testing might already have started. Specification wise, 6K video resolution, IBIS and a resolution jump are rumored.

Stay tuned.

Canon Might Have A Video Camera With RF Mount On Their Agenda, Patent

RF Mount

Is Canon working on a video camera with RF mount? A patent suggest they might.

Canon patent application 2019‑161567 (Japan) describes a compact video camera that looks like the Canon XC10, and we think it has the RF mount, introduced by Canon with EOS R full frame mirrorless camera system.

Don’t get too excited, however. Most patent applications never go into production. Never the less, it might be a hint that Canon is investing in the RF mount. In any case, an interesting Canon patent application. Please note that the patent application doesn’t explicitly mention the RF mount. We think it might be an RF mount because according to the patent pictures, the lens mount is too close to the sensor to be an EF mount.

More Canon patent applications are listed here. Some particularly interesting patent applications we think might get into production are these:
