Is This the Price of the Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 Lens ($1,499)?

tam

Dutch site DeWinkel appears to have leaked the price of the upcoming Tamron SP 15-30mm f/2.8 lens. Neither on B&H Photo‘s nor on Adorama‘s product page the price shows up, there is not even a pre-order option available. The Tamron 15-30mm f/2.8 was announced in October. Hard to say if $1,499 are the real thing. For the time being take it with a pinch of salt.

More Mentions of a Possible Sony Sensor for Canon DSLRs (i told you it was coming)

Sony SensorCanon Rumor

When we first reported this rumor, we got a sceptical reaction from some well known rumor site. Now, months later and very quietly, they reported our original rumor, or they also got a tip pointing to the same. No problem guys if you forgot where the rumor showed up before :-) It’s always better be late than not to come to the party.

The possibility that Canon may feature Sony sensors on their DSLRs is less weird than you might think. Canon has a pragmatic approach to things. In an interview some time ago, when asked about the G7 X sensor (which features a Sony sensor), Canon said:

Q: […] One thing we’ve learned is that the sensor in the G7X is not made by Canon. Does this represent a new philosophy at Canon?
A: We select the best sensor, whoever the manufacturer is. That’s our policy

Exactly, so a Sony sensor in a Canon DSLR is much less implausible than some supposedly well informed people is saying. The times are changing, we have to live with it. If Sony sensors are the right thing for Canon DSLRs, then let’s go with Sony sensors. The rumor Canon Rumors is reporting says:

Canon will use Sony’s new 46mp sensor as the 3rd party launch partner, maybe a little after Sony releases it in a camera of their own. Sony and Canon are partnering on many upcoming products – most recently the G7X being a prime example. Canon will use their own CFA / processing and will make a big point of colour accuracy.

This fits pretty well with what we reported back in November. If Canon is going to feature multi-layer, Foveon-like sensors on their cameras, these sensor will most probably also come from Sony.

Canon Working on a 4K Fixed Lens Camcorder?

4K
Canon Rumors writes:

We’re told that a 4K fixed lens camcorder is coming in the early part of 2015. Such a product would probably fit in with CES as a consumer product announcement. We’re told the camera is called the XC10, and it will have similar ergonomics to the EOS C100, but it will have a fixed lens.

A lot points to the fact that Canon will implement 4K on cameras in 2015. The EOS 5D Mark IV is also rumoured to feature 4k.

Next Large Sensor Canon Powershot Camera Coming for CES 2015?

Canon Powershot

That’s what Canon Rumors suggests in their latest post.

We’re told that the previously mentioned large sensor PowerShot camera to complete the lineup of higher end compact cameras will be announced at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.

No pricing nor specs so far.

CW’s take: the rumor is plausible, if not plain logic. We know Canon is working on a third large sensor Powershot camera after the Powersot G1 X Mark II and the Powershot G7 X. There were a lot of signs pointing in this direction, not last the inadvertend leak on Canon Netherland’s site and an development announcement on Canon Hong Kong’s page. So, yes it’s coming and CES may be the right stage for the announcement.

Stay tuned…

Canon Going Serious with Mirrorless in 2015 (full-frame MILC coming?)

Mirrorless
Canon’s EOS M

More and ore signs that something important in coming from Canon on the mirrorless front.

I have been told (thanks) that Canon will soon announce the development of a new mirrorless system camera, something we “will really like, and that’s what we were all waiting for“. First information should come (or leak) by the end of the year.

This is not the first mention of an upcoming new EOS M camera. According to the sources (yes, I got largely identical information from two different sources), this will not be an EOS M3 that follows the footsteps of the previous two models. One of the sources mentioned a mirrorless cam with full-frame sensor on board, the other an EOS M with rangefinder.

Everything is very secretive and hold under wraps for the time being. The only thing that appears to be pretty sure is that Canon is indeed working on the release of a new mirrorless system camera. And all signs so far suggest that this time it will be a serious affair.

2015 may be an exciting year for Canon. There are two new professional, full-frame cameras that are rumored, both with suggested 50 megapixel sensors (pinch of salt here). I am not posting everything and all the rumors I get, but there is one thing I am getting sure about: there will be exciting news by Canon next year.

Stay tuned….
