Canon EOS M5 Mark II and EOS M6 Mark II Might Be Announced In August 2019

Canon Eos M5 Mark Ii Mirrorless

As expected, a new rumor confirms an already leaked suggestion that Canon might announce the Canon EOS M5 Mark II and the EOS M6 Mark II (all rumors).

Both cameras have already leaked through certification authorities. We just didn’t know if Canon would announce them along with the EOS 90D, or later on.

Along with the announcement date suggestion, the latest rumor delivers also some basic specifications for the Canon EOS M5 Mark II and EOS M6 Mark II:

  • Internal product name: Project Nacho
  • Both cameras will have a similar EVF to the Canon RP
  • No crop in 4K video
  • Supports high frame rates for slow-motion video

It’s not clear what is meant with “both cameras will have a similar EVF to the Canon RP” since the EOS M5 has a built-in EVF and the EOS M6 has not.

If the August announcement date is correct (we believe it is around 28th), then we should soon see more detailed leaks and images. Stay tuned, more to come soon…

Aurora Aperture Introduces Revolutionary Filter System For Mirrorless Mount Adapters

Aurora Aperture

Press release:

AURORA APERTURE INTRODUCES A REVOLUTIONARY FILTER SYSTEM: ADAPTER MOUNT FORMAT FILTERS FOR MIRRORLESS MOUNT ADAPTERS

Irvine, California, July 15th, 2019 – Aurora Aperture Inc. today has introduced a revolutionary filter system, the Aurora Aperture Adapter Mount Format (AMF) filter for mirrorless mount adapters.

The AMF filters drop into mirrorless camera mount adapters such as the Canon Mount Adapter EF-EOS R, the Nikon FTZ, the Sigma MC-11 for Sony E, and the Sigma MC-21 for the L mount.

“In 2017 we introduced a rear mount filter system for the Canon EF 11-24mm F4L USM: The Aurora CR format, an industry-first rear mount glass filter,” said Jeff Chen, founder and CEO of Aurora Aperture Inc. “The Aurora Aperture CR format filters solves the problem of needing a huge filter adapter and massive filters for lenses that have protruding front elements. Due to the recent pivot of mirrorless camera development and releases from Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, Sony, and others: We’ve invented the Adapter Mount Format for the mirrorless mount adapters which enables mirrorless camera users to use a single set of filters for all their DSLR lenses regardless of the filter thread size.”

One Mount One Filter

Designed in California, the Aurora Aperture AMF drop-in filters offer many advantages over traditional front–mounted lens filters. Since a drop-in filter goes inside a mount adapter, users only need one set of filters per adapter instead of specific thread sizes for each lens. It not only saves users from having to buy multiple sets of filters or large diameter filters – but it also means awkward to use step-up rings are no longer necessary.

The drop-in filters are very compact and lightweight, meaning that they’re easily carried. They cost much less than traditional front mount filters, especially in comparison to large filter thread sizes.

Any DSLR lens that can be mounted on the four supported mirrorless mount adapters can be used with these drop-in filters, whether the lens has a front filter thread or not. This is especially beneficial for ultra wide-angle lenses without a front filter thread which would otherwise require massive filters on a bulky adapter.

Weird Rumor Suggests Canon EOS 90D Might Be Mirrorless With EF Mount

Ibis Canon Rumors Canon Full Frame Mirrorless Canon PowerShot G7 X Canon Eos 90d Coronavirus

Here is the next Canon EOS 90D rumor (all rumors).

As we reported, Canon is set to announce the Canon EOS 90D in August. The EOS 90D is rumored to feature IBIS, and a supposed specification list already surfaced. We also reported that the Canon EOS 90D might replace both the EOS 80D and EOS 7D Mark II

Now, the announcement date gets closer and this leads to all sort of misleadings and wishful thinking. The latest specification suggestion has it that the EOS 90D might be mirrorless:

  • Mirrorless APS-C camera body
  • 31.2mp APS-C sensor (previously 32MP)
  • 4K video with no crop (no mention of DPAF)
  • Full coverage of the sensor for AF
  • 10fps
  • Supports live eyeAF in 4k and Full HD Video modes
  • LP-6N battery
  • Supports clean video to HDMI out

The source also mentions the EOS 90D might have the EF mount. We think an APS-C mirrorless camera with EF mount is highly unlikely. So, we recommend you take this rumor with a huge grain of salt. And stay tuned, there is more to come soon.

Here is what we expect Canon to announce in the next months.
