Canon Patent Application For RF 200-800mm f/6-8.5 Lens

canon patent application

Another Canon patent application for an RF mount lens, that’s a lens for the Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless system.

Hi Lows Note spotted Canon patent application 2020-118816A. The patent application describes the optical formulas for an RF 200-800mm f/6-8.5 lens.

  • Focal length: 199.97 399.99 784.76 mm
  • F number: 6.00 6.80 8.50

Canon Is Still The Alpha Dog In The Camera Industry, Sony And Nikon Follow Up

canon

Well, maybe the right headline should say Canon”was” the alpha dog since the reported market figures refer to 2019. But we guess little has changed from last year.

Techno System Research data, a major marketing research company located in Japan, published global sales figures for the DSLR and mirrorless market.

  • Canon: 45,4% (+2.4%)
  • Sony: 20.2% (+0.9%)
  • Nikon: 18.6% (-1.6%)
  • Fujifilm: 4.7% (-0.4%)
  • Panasonic: 4.7% (0.0%)

Canon is the undisputed king of camera sales here, and we are sure it will not change any time soon.

Canon Might Announce Two EOS Cinema 8K Cameras In 2021

c300 mark iii canon firmware updates 8k cameras

Canon might well be set to announce and release two new 8K-capable EOS Cinema cameras next year.

The first of these 8K Cinema cameras will be the next flagship, boosting some pro-oriented features.

The other one will be a modular and more similar to the Cinema EOS C300 Mark III and Cinema EOS C500 Mark II cameras.

No price nor specifications so far. We assume that Canon might announce these cameras around April 2021, i.e. when NAB 2021 is scheduled.

Stay tuned.

Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 For Video Review (don’t underestimate the R6)

canon eos r6 review

Here is a Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 review that examines how well both cameras do for video.

Dan Watson did a rather extensive comparison on the EOS R6 vs EOS R5 for video work with a lot of real world shooting, side by side tests in every resolution/frame rate, low light, and of course, he had to look at overheating issue as well. A good review and we recommend it. Don’t underestimate the EOS R6!

You can follow Dan Watson and his work on Facebook | Instagram | Twitter.

The EOS R5 seems to be highly regarded as a stills camera. In particular, the autofocus system seems to be huge leap forwards. More Canon EOS R5 review stuff is listed here, for the EOS R6 see here. User manual are available for download for the EOS R5 and the EOS R6.
