New Canon Sumire Prime Lenses Make Their Hollywood Premiere At Cine Gear Expo

Hands-on Demonstrations of Canon’s Latest Digital Imaging Products Including the EOS C700 FF, EOS C200 and EOS R

MELVILLE, NY, May 30, 2019 – At the 2019 Cine Gear Expo in Los Angeles, Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging solutions, will showcase its latest cinema offerings in Booth #12. Visitors to the Canon booth will have the opportunity to experience the recently announced Sumire Prime Lenses, Canon’s first PL-Mount cinema prime lenses. Additional cinema solutions in the booth will include the EOS C700 FF and EOS C200 cinema cameras, CINE-SERVO lenses and 4K Reference Displays. Also on display in the booth will be Canon’s groundbreaking EOS R series of full-frame mirrorless cameras and complementary RF series of lenses.

What To Expect From Canon In 2019 (80D/7D2 replacement, new EOS M)

Another mention suggesting Canon is set to replace both the EOS 80D and the EOS 7D Mark II with one camera. There might be no EOS 7D Mark III. The DSLR replacing the EOS 80D and 7D Mark II is expected by August 2019.

What’s new is that Canon might announce a new, feature rich and aggressively specced EOS M camera. Hopefully this will put an end to the “EOS R with APS-C sensor” speculations. The EOS M is Canon’s APS-C system and we think it is highly unlikely an EOS R camera with crop sensor will ever surface.

We also expect a new EOS R camera towards the end of 2019. According to our sources it will feature a high resolution sensor.

Finally, there are still five RF lenses that Canon has already announced both not yet released.

Canon EOS 7D Series Reached End of Life And To Be Replaced By Mirrorless Camera?

We mentioned a few times that Canon might replace both the EOS 80D and the EOS 7D Mark II with one camera for both, killing both line-ups in favour of a new camera.

Now a new rumor confirms partially what we reported. The Canon EOS 7D Mark II might be the last of its kind. It’s suggested Canon will replace the EOS 7D Mark II with a mirrorless offering, i.e. an EOS R model with an APS-C sensor. But is an EOS R with crop sensor really something that might happen?

Apparently retailers are worried to lose customers of the highly popular EOS 7D Mark II, especially because these folks are more likely to buy more and more expensive lenses. More than users of Canon Rebels or even the EOS 80D. It seems Canon told these retailers not to worry and that the issue will be addressed.

As for the suggestion that Canon might have an EOS R with APS-C sensor on their agenda, we honestly do not know what to say. It appears to be highly unrealistic in our opinion. Most people we talked to dismissed this possibility. If it is possible, or if it makes sense or is feasible from an engineering point of of view, is beyond our knowledge. Some sites are heavily pushing the idea of an APS-C EOS R, others call it bs.

The RF mount is extremely powerful and for sure Canon hasn’t yet shown all possible benefits and advantages. But an APS-C sensor? We think it is more likely Canon will replace the EOS 7D Mark II with a new DSLR, which will also replace the EOS 80D.

We are pretty confident Canon will announce at least the replacement for the EOS 80D later in 2019. A replacement for the EOS M5 or EOS M6 is also expected this year.

You can get the Canon EOS R body at $1,799.10 (reg. $1,999), and the EOS R with RF 24–105mm F4 L IS USM lens at $2,609.10 (reg. $2,899). Stock will not last long. Refurbished gear from the Canon Store comes with a full 1-year warranty.
