Samyang RF 14mm f/2.8 Review (many strengths and a few shortcomings, D. Abbott)

Samyang RF 14mm F/2.8 Review

Here is a Samyang RF 14mm f/2.8 review. The Samyang RF 14mm f/2.8 mounts natively on the Canon EOS R system.

Dustin Abbott posted an exhaustive Samyang RF 14mm f/2.8 review. The Samyang RF 14mm f/2.8 is a rather fast wide angle lens for the Canon EOS R full frame mirrorless system.

From Dustin Abbott’s conclusion:

[the Samyang RF 14mm f/2.8 is] not perfect; the extreme corners aren’t super sharp until smaller apertures, and I didn’t feel that the best landscape performance came until F8.  Fortunately the wide focal length means that you can still effectively handhold in a lot of lighting conditions as you don’t need a particularly high shutter speed to avoid motion blur even without image stabilization in Canon bodies (thus far).  I found that even shooting at 1/30th to 1/50th of a second was sufficient to get reliably sharp results (unless I was particularly cold!), and that’s possible in most lighting conditions.  There’s a fair bit of barrel distortion, and definitely some vignette, though all of these are correctable in either camera or post.  There’s no question that you can produce some dynamic, intriguing images with this lens, and the fact that you can do it without breaking the bank ($699 USD MSRP) is just icing on the cake.  It’s also an intriguing option for video either on a gimbal (light weight and good autofocus help!) or for doing vlogging.  By the end of my review period, I had come full circle and appreciated this lens for its many strengths despite having a few shortcomings.  If you want a really wide angle of view and can’t afford the pricey Canon RF 15-35mm F2.8L IS, then the Samyang RF 14mm F2.8 might just be the lens for you.

I prefer to read reviews instead of watching videos so I truly recommend you head over to Dustin Abbott’s site, if not for else at least to see some beatiful pictures of a Canadian winter landscape. For those who prefer to watch reviews, the two videos below should suit.

Samyang lenses are also branded Rokinon, depending by geographic location.

Canon EOS R Review – Comparing It To The EOS C500 Mark II

Canon Eos R Review

Here is a somewhat different Canon EOS R review. Ok, I know, comparing apples with pears. Never the less we think it’s an interesting comparison.

Potato Jet On YouTube compares the Canon EOS R with the Canon EOS C500 Mark II. That’s comparing a $1,800 camera with a $16,000 professional tool for videographers. Apples vs. pears, but…: can the EOS R keep up with the C500 II when it comes to video? Can it be a backup body for videographers? Find out in the video below.

The Canon EOS R5 Meets The Internet, And Strikes Back – A Parody

Canon EOS R5 Price

Here is something about the new Canon EOS R5 to ease your start into the new week, a bit of humor.

The short clip below by Michael The Maven sums up pretty well how Canon’s upcoming game changer, the Canon EOS R5, will shake up the industry.

We now know that the EOS R5 will be released before the Summer Olympics 2020.

Did you hear the latest? A Canon EOS R camera with APS-C sensor is rumored again and has already been dubbed EOS R7 by the Internet folks.

And what abpout the EOS R6, said to be the next Canon full frame mirrorless to get released? We expect the announcement in May 2020.

All Canon rumors are listed here.

Stay tuned, there is more to come soon.

Canon Rumor: EOS R7 With APS-C Sensor Coming 2021?

Canon Rumor

Here is a new Canon rumor, again mentioning a EOS R with APS-C sensor.

We have always been rather sceptical about the possibilities of an EOS R with APS-C sensor. Is it a real possibility? After Nikon released the Z 50 (with an APS-C sensor) we have at least to consider the possibility of an APS-C EOS R getting announced. Still, it leaves us a bit puzzled. Canon has a rather well accepted mirrorless system with APS-C sensor, the EOS M. Is there really space for an EOS R with crop sensor? I mean: is there a market for an EOS R with crop sensor? Maybe someone among you has some enlightening thoughts about this matter.

However, a new rumor suggests Canon might release a model with APS-C sensor, named Canon EOS R7 by the Internet folks, in 2021. And the same rumor also suggests Canon might release three RF lenses for this APS-C EOS R model. Well, that’s something.

Could a EOS R camera with crop sensor replace the ageing Canon EOS 7D Mark II? It’s at least a possibility to take in account. The EOS 7D lineup was quite popular with wildlife photographers, getting an extended reach due to the crop factor, and it’s likely Canon will not give up such a popular camera. On the other hand, it’s pretty clear that Canon embraced mirrorless technology and is putting a lot of stakes on it. So…what?

In the meantime are all waiting to know the price of what really seems to be an industry game changer, i.e. the Canon EOS R5. And then for the EOS R6, expect to get announced in a few months.

Stay tuned for the next Canon rumor, and sound off in the comment section if you like.
