Here Is Another Canon Patent For IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization)

In Body Image Stabilization

Here is one more Canon patent dealing with IBIS (In Body Image Stabilization). We’ll see this technology soon on the upcoming Canon EOS R5.

Canon patent application US20200120251 discusses technology and means of implementation of IBIS. Although the images in the patent literature depict a DSLR, we have no doubt IBIS will first be seen on a Canon mirrorless camera.

From the patent abstract:

An image pickup apparatus which makes the load applied to a movable unit when it is displaced nearly uniform. The movable unit controlled by a control unit is capable of being in at least a predetermined direction. A first flexible board has a first connecting portion connected to the movable unit, a first wiring portion extended from the first connecting portion in a first direction different from a direction of an optical axis, and a second connecting portion placed at an end of the first wiring portion and connected to the control unit. A second flexible board has a third connecting portion connected to the movable unit, a second wiring portion extended from the third connecting portion in a second direction different from the direction of the optical axis, and a fourth connecting portion placed at an end of the second wiring portion and connected to the control unit.

Canon EOS R5 and EOS R6 Announcements As Scheduled, But Shipping Might Get Delayed

Canon Rumors Canon EOS R5c

There have been rumors the Canon EOS R5 and Canon EOS R6 might get delayed because of the Coronavirus outbreak. It has neither been confirmed nor denied by Canon.

Now another rumor adds some bits. It’s reported that Canon will stick to the scheduled announcement dates. However, shipments could indeed be subject to a bunch of yet unknown factors that could have an influence on dates.

The same source also reports that Canon will likely push back announcements for new lenses. If this is caused by the virus outbreak is not reported.

This sets the announcement of the EOS R5 (already development-announced) and the EOS R6 within the next two months. A new Cinema Camera should also come in April 2020.

So, you’ll be soon be able to place a preorder for the R5 and R6, and will then have to wait an unknown time for delivery. Let’s hope not.

All we know about the highly anticipated Canon EOS R5 is listed here.

Stay tuned.

The Canon EOS R5 Is A Mirrorless 5-series Camera, Canon Exec Says

Canon Rumors Canon EOS R5c

It was already clear to most of us that the Canon EOS R5 was playing in the same league as the EOS 5D-lineup.

Now it’s officially stated by David Parry, Canon’s Product Marketing Specialist, in an interview with Techradar about the Canon EOS R5.

Here are some excerpts:

So is that why this camera is called the EOS R5?

It’s aimed at that level of the market. This isn’t a replacement for the 5D Mark IV or anything like that. But this is a mirrorless 5-series, it’s aimed at that segment of the market” […]

The EOS R5 has impressive video credentials. How does it handle heat issues when shooting 8K video?

We’ve been doing this for a while now and we’ve learnt a lot of techniques to dissipate heat on other products that we have in our lineup. For example, being able to move components around, and being able to have them further away from each other” […]

The EOS R5 has Animal Eye AF. Does this work in both video and stills?

We can’t divulge that at the moment, but what’s really exciting about that for us is that it’s dogs, cats and birds – as far as I’m aware no other manufacturer has mentioned birds in their Animal AF
